What is it?

Sport is always healthy. Everyone knows that. But how does physical activity influence sleep? Or is it the other way round?

When you move regularly, as you may have noticed: you sleep better. Children who run around during the day, fall asleep and stay asleep more easily. But what exactly happens in the body?

What matters now?

There are four specific effects:

- You fall asleep more easily.

- You don't lie awake at night so much.

- You’re not as tired during the day.

- You rely less on sleeping aids.

And you realise that sleep influences movement as well. If you go to bed 30 minutes later, that means a minute less movement the next day. It is not yet known exactly why that is. Many physiological processes happen while we sleep. Cell repair, metabolic processes, hormone regulation and much more.

The effects of sport and movement are anti-depressive, the change in core temperature, regulation of the sleep-wake cycle and the impact on mood and anxiety. You also burn more energy.
