What is it?

Cardiovascular disease covers many different illnesses. It includes blood pressure problems, arteriosclerosis, arrythmias, and heart attacks and ischemic strokes. And the symptoms are just as wide-ranging: from mild dizziness and headaches to severe shortage of breath and loss of cognitive and motor functions. Of course, you can’t just train away all of these symptoms. But you can alleviate many of them easily and relatively quickly.

What’s important at this stage?

Before you even think about physical activity, find out exactly what the problem is. Training is not always the answer.

Many problems can be improved through cardiovascular training: blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, getting out of breath quickly. But for some disorders, you will need to consult a physiotherapist for guidance.

You should start off with gentle activities. Increase the intensity slowly. And track your training with a heart rate monitor.
