Multiple Sclerosis

This neurological disease presents as chronic inflammation of the nerves. It’s sometimes called a disease with a thousand faces as it manifests in so many different ways. In Switzerland, one person is diagnosed with it every day.

What is it?

Our nervous system has two parts: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system. The brain and spinal cord form the CNS. From there, nerves branch out to every part of our bodies, i.e. the peripheries. The nerves in the CNS are sometimes separated by a myelin sheath so that they can send their signals even faster. If you have multiple sclerosis, this myelin sheath and the nerve transmission pathways are attacked and damaged by your own immune system. Different bodily functions may be affected depending on where the inflammation is focused.

What’s important at this stage?

Treatment is as wide-ranging as the presentation of the disease itself. As movement is very often affected, coordination and balance are almost always impacted. The illness is often accompanied by acute fatigue.

So individually tailored training is incredibly important.

Where does Sensopro come in?

Coordination training is easy to adapt in terms of intensity, and is therefore suitable for all stages of the disease. MS patients often report very positive results on their ability to walk following training on the Sensopro devices.
